Follow the Maintenance Schedule recom mendations to ensjre tliat the vehicle is always in peak operating condition, performing Hie first scheduled maintenance is very important. It compensates for the initial wear that occurs during the break-in period.
Sections I through 3 apply to the whole motorcycle, while sections 4 through 17 describe p8rts of the motorcycle, grouped according to locatlor.
Find the section you want on this page, then turn to the tabic of contents on page 1 of that section.
Most sections start with an assembly or system illustration and specifications, torque values, general instructions, cools and troubleshooting for the section. The subsequent pages give detailed p-ocedures for the section.

1. Uw genuine HONDA or HONDA-recommended parts and lubricants or their equivalents. Parti that don't meet Hondo's design spedficarions may damage the motorcycle.
2. Use the special tooli deigned for this product.
3. Use only metric tools when servicing this moiorcycio. Metric bolts, nuts, and tcrnws are not Interchangeable with English fasteners. The use of incorrect tools and fasteners may damage the motorcycle.
4. Install new gaskets, O-rinQS, cotter pins. lock plates, etc. when reassembling.
6. Ween tightening bolts or nuts, begin with the larger -diameter or inner bolt flr*t, and tighten to the specified turque values diagonally m 2-3 steps, unless a particular sequence is specified.
6. Clean larii in nonflammable or high Mash point solvent upon disassembly. Lubricate any sliding surfaces before reassembly.
7. After reassembly, check all pats for proper installation and operation.

GENERAL INFORMATION
EMISSION CONTROL SYSTEM
The CO is enuipotil with lean carburetor setting* and other systems to reduce carbon monoxide and hydiocartxin amissions.
EXHAUST SYSTEM
Ths exhaust emission control synem is composed of lean carburetor setting*, and no adjust menu shuuld be made except Idle
sp^eo1 adjustment wilh. ihe throttle imp tuew.
The exiwiiM emission control system is separate from the cankcase emission control system.
CRANKCASE SYSTEM
The engine ii equipped with a closed crankcaw system to prevent discharging ertmkease emissions into the atmosphere. Blow-by gas is returned 10 the combust km chamber through ths air cleaner and Ihe carburetor.

Support the motoicvclo upright on level ground. Chuck Iho oil level with the lilfet cap/dipstick. Do not screw in the cap when making this check. U the level b below the lower level on the dipstick, till to die upper level maik with the recommended engine oil.
ENGINE OIL CHANGE
NOTE
When changing the oil, drain the used oil from the crankc&ic while the engine n warm. This ensures complete and rapid draining._________
Remove the oil filler cap/dipstick.
Plan an oil drain pen under iho engine, and remove the drain plug. When the oil has been completely drained, bo sure that the drain plug sealing washer is In good condition and Irtttnll the drain plug.
TORQUE: 2-0 - 2.5 kg-m (14 - 18 ft-lb)
Pour the 'eemmended nit (pegs 2-11 slowly through
the oil IIIte. hole.
CAPACITY: 0.6 liter (0.66 US qt) ae oil change
Install the nil tiller rap'd-pitick. Start the engine and let it Idle 2-3 minutei. Stop the engine and check thai the oil level is at the upper level mark on the dp stick with the motorcycle upright. Check that utsra 8'* no oil leaks.

Remove end clean the oil filter screen.
Install the oil filter screen, right raankcase gasket
and GOver, kick starter pedal, muffler and footpegs(
side stand assembly.
Fill the crankcase with the »ecommended engine oil.
Start the engitifi.and let it idle for 2-3 minutes.
Stop the engine and check the oil level with the
moto'cycio upright

Remove and discard tho ipork plug.
Memure the new spark plug oap using a wire-type feeler gauge.
SPARK PLUG GAP: 0.6-0.7 mm (D.O24-O.028 in)
Adjust by bending the tide electrode carefully.
With the plug washer attached, ihteod the new spark plug in by hand to prevent crossthreading.
Tighten the sperk plug another 1/2 turn with a mark plug wrench to compress the plug washer,

PILOT SCREW
REMOVAL/INSTALLATION NOTE
The pilol screw is factory pre-set and should not bo removed unless the carburetor Is overhauled.
Remove ine carliuretor.
Remove the float chamber.
Turn the pilot screw in and carefully count the
number of turn* before It wats lightly.
Make a noltt of this to use ai n reference when
installing the pilot screw.
CAUTION:
Damage to the pilot screw and seat will occur If the pilot screw is tightened asainsi the seat.
Remove the pilot screw with ino limiler cap attached. CAUTION:
Any forcible attempt to remove the ptlot icrew llmlter cap will break Ike screw.
Inspect the pilot screw fo> wear and replace ||
necessary.
Install the pilot straw and return it to lu original
position as noted during removal.
Perform pilot screw adjustment if a new pilot screw
Is installed.
NOTE
Do not install a llmlrnr cap on a now pilot screw until after adjustment has been made {tee below).

Romove the vgfvo and inspect the face CAUTION:
The valves pinrn/i be ground. If the valve face Is fffugh, warn unevenly, or contacts, i/te seat improperly, the voire hum be replaced
Inspect ihe valve seat.

NOTE
Follow the relecer manufacturer's operating instructions.

Wash the fuel filter In clean non-flammable or high flash point solvent.
